I agree.... I am told by IO that my case was assigned on 7/23.
I am just wondering do they assign it to officer when dates are not current ?

I respect bitzbytz's view. IMHO, Pappu's post shows too much arrogance in IV.
Btw, I have donated $100 towards advocacy.
Shows arrogance or frustration? Flip side of the same coin!
IV really needs people from KY, KS, TN, UT, AL, CO, AR - please help convince a friend or family from these states. Thanks.

After reading the post on this thread, I am sure I must have fumbled something. Please read and advice
1. My wife came here (USA) on H4 visa in Dec 2005, got 1 year.
2. Applied for H1b in May 2006
3. Applied for H4 visa renewal in June 2006
4. H1B got approved Sept 25th
5. H4 got approved Oct 21th 06
6. Applied for SSN Jan 1st 2007.
7. Since SSN#, she is working
Is there any gotcha or issues that we might have created in between?
Is it a good idea to get H1b stamped from Canada?
you may want consult good lawyer, as far as I know if H4 gets approved after your H1b approval you will loose your H1b and your back on H4. I don't want to scare you but want to make you aware of the situation, don't even think of going for visa stamping before you find out all the details. Just call some good lawyer they should have answer to these situations.

One can have a Perm labor and a BEC approved labor. I know people who have both the labos with them each from PERM and BEC. and each case PERM was approved before BEC

Well I really think this is reasonable suggestion to factor Priority Date to determine eligibility for citizenship. It could be 5 or 10 years past your priority and only after approval of green card. Currently many people wait for 8 to 10 years for green card and another 5 years to be eligible for citizenship and some lucky ones get green card in 2 to 3 years and citizenship in another 5 years. System should somehow be balanced to have close to uniform wait times towards citizenship for all.
sorry to sound like a beaten record - but it seems that everyone here pretty much sees citizenship as fait accompli!
how has our respective motherlands harmed us that despite being pushed around by US for years on end -we are desperately seeking US citizenship?? after all - in many cases - its the basic and advanced education received at our respective countries that has made us qualify as "highly skilled" immigrants here.....
go ahead - put all the red dots - but do some soul searching before that!
here is the first line of US citizenship oath - "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen" - while i can absolutely live in US as a law-abiding, tax-paying resident - how can i renounce my country of birth?

good idea to get the DL work done...and make copies of the EAD before starting the process.
btw, which state do you live in? are they giving you 1-year DL's because of the EAD validity?
I did think about the above and my line of thinking was this ..once you have one year EAD ..get the drivers license (make and keep copies) and then start the above process.
what is the worst that can happen ..they will just return the same card ..ofcourse this is something which has not been tried out ..so we may have to call customer service and then see what they say ..any thoughts ??

Real Companies like PWC, IBM pay you while you're on bench, while this indian consulting companies break the law by not doing that.
Q : Must an H-1B alien be working at all times? (http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=a62bec897643f010VgnVCM1000000ecd190aRCR D&vgnextchannel=1847c9ee2f82b010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1 RCRD)
As long as the employer/employee relationship exists, an H-1B alien is still in status. An H-1B alien may work in full or part-time employment and remain in status. An H-1B alien may also be on vacation, sick/maternity/paternity leave, on strike, or otherwise inactive without affecting his or her status.

Done calling the congressmen's offices. Left messages for the remaining members of the CHC. Let's keep calling and hope that some thing good comes from the collective effort.
To all IV members, please keep the phonelines going. Our strength lies in the numbers and the momentum generated by the phone call initiative.

I just called all the offices mentioned.
Almost all of them seemed to know what I'm talking about and couple of the offices actually said they have been receiving numerous calls asking the congressman/congresswoman to support these bills and some of them knew the bill number even before i could mention them...so looks like we are getting our point across loud and clear....
Keep those calls going through

When I did it a few months ago, it took close to 90 days. And, once you submit, you are at their mercy. No information is given, phone calls always end up in 'this mailbox is full crap'.
So, if you need it much faster, I would suggest either calling them prior to submitting and checking if their times have improved or going there in person. I am not sure if that makes a difference.
The 10 day return is supposedly for people who got their passports through Houston. For passports issued in India, it may take up to 90 days.

( I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine, who was more than happy to go to Las Vegas very frequently and lose 100$ than contributing time or money to IV.)
I was running some numbers...
There are close to 400,000 pending applicants.
Out of 400000, maybe 300,000 are from seriously backlogged regions? (India, China etc..)
Out of 300000, maybe 150,000 are from India.
Out of 150000, maybe 80,000 are primary applicants (Not counting dependents).
Out of 80,000, maybe 30,000 are waiting endlessly with no hope around the corner...
(I don't have the below exact numbers..but)
Out of 30,000, we have hardly 50 members attending the DC advocacy event?
If these 30,000 members, on an average had contributed 10$ ( 3 gallons of gas or Half the weekend pizza/family outing bill), wouldn't we have reached 300,000 $?
Now comparing these numbers with recent demonstrations around the country in support of DREAM Act, I would say there is a difference of Apple and Orange. Remember, there were students who were undocumented/out of status, risking deportation participated and contributed for the DREAM Act. Having said that, may be we need to pushed to the limits before we ALL take some action.
Given this lazy attitude of IV audience, I really commend the efforts of Anu and other IV core team for their efforts. If I were in their position, I would have given up long time back.

sounds like it.
My PD is Mar-04, RD=14Aug07
On USCIS status, it says.." On October 11, 2007, we received this I485..." .
Processing time for TSC is Aug07.. Does this mean my case will not processed now?

BharatPremi and other who have put lots of time and thought analyzing-
Can you talk a bit about ROW EB3. Do you think with PD MAY 2004, with EAD, AP on hand, should I try a new EB2 or stick with the old one?
