Not only do you get SS but you also have to pay taxes to US irrespective of where you live for the rest of your life. So on a net it is still arguable depending on your long term residency plan. And my friend, Social Security is going away in the next 10 years. You think the USA can maintain this kind of a deficit for ever with people not willing to see an increase in taxes.

I may be wrong, but I had different impression. If officer felt that GC can be given in one year they issued 1 year EAD, other wise 2 years EAD. When I got 2 years EAD, I was not happy about it.
But several things go wrong and people might not have got GC despite getting 1 year EAD. I feel that people getting 1 year EAD must have every thing ready, just waiting for their Visa Number.

Good to hear this....though I am :mad:.......i am really happy that i have my lovely wife...kids....home...etc.....nothing wrong in my life....if i have the gc i will be more happy....

Difference between genius and ordinary is the former will understand without experiencing. Latter needs to experience to realise.

The worst injustice USCIS committed was setting up Backlog Elimination Centers and letting an incompetent contractor handle the cases slowly. Elaine Chao must be fired for incompetence and indifference just like Brown was fired for Katrina bungling.
Brown (and Bush administration) don't care about AMERICANS (well, mostly poor blacks but Americans anyway...), while Elaine Chao and her great team don't care for immigrants. Who gives a damn?! She may even get a promotion for this screw up, forcing some immigrants to give up and pack back.

Your RD cannot be mid September. That must be your Notice Date. I bet your RD (the date CIS received your app) is either July or August.

Quality of life does not come only with buying a house alone.
People who stretched themselves to buy an unaffordable house by going for creative mortgages probably fearing that they will be priced out of the housing market, may not be enjoying the quality of life when 70% of the paycheck is going towards mortgage and after a few years worrying that their houses are 40% down from where they bought!
You can RENT a house and have better quality of life because you will have more money to spend on rest of the things in life.
I came here in 2000 too and haven't bought a house yet. I shall not buy unless it is affordable and I don't have to nickle and dime after making mortgage payment every month.. Another one year and I am sure houses will come in my range, if not I am happy renting for rest of my life or move to a place where I can afford a house.(I live in San Francisco area right now).
Another short story to end it.
A friend's friend bought a big house, close to a million dollars. Husband and wife both work. My friend complimented them by telling them that they have a really nice and big house. The guy responded.."Yeah only thing is I can't get a peaceful sleep in it.. substantial amount of monthly income goes towards mortgage!"
Point is you want to be a home owner or have a peaceful life?

I agree with you but give them(EB3 people) hope that next year we will re capture unused visas either through CIR or piecemeal amendment.
With re-capture EB2 will be current and all the spillover/accross/up/down will go to EB3
and next year sept Eb3 will move 3-4 years.
I do not know much but IV core might be in a good position to answer about how we can
get our provisions piecemeal.
I read that there are 2800 EB3-I visas a year, or about 233 visas per month. Assuming there are about 700 numbers available for the rest of the year 2010, using the data in the latest May-2010 I485 inventory, the calculation is pretty straight n easy with no spillover calculations involved ... here is a possible progress of the PD:

I applied my wife's passport for extension. She has 6 more months on that one. I got the renewal exactly after 3 weeks from CGI-Houston. But the problem is, they gave only 1yr extension. In effect, I got only 6 months extension. I'm glad, atleast they sent it because we already booked the ticket to India in May. I'm not sure why they've given like that. Anyone has any ideas on that one?
