I am looking for a new MacBook, for under $1000, and have three possible choices, all refurbed.
The current base 11" MBA or the previous 13" MBA for $849 or the previous version of the MBP for $929.
From Air owners, is the previous version, even worth considering? Or should I decide between the current 11 and the previous 13 MBP?
Many thanks

Yeah, I do this all the time. Works great. I use an SM58 and a G2-series SKP 100 plug-on transmitter, but it's basically the same thing.

I have a homebuilt desktop (core components were upgraded 14 months ago on a <$800 budget) and a 2011 13" MBP. In addition to gaming, my uses include programming/software development and image manipulation (Photoshop), and I'm very satisfied with this combination.
My brother has a top of the line 2011 15" MBP. While it can run most newer games, it's still significantly slower than my desktop where gaming is concerned, despite the fact that said desktop is now over a year old and has a mid-range GPU (Radeon 5770). Towards the end of this year I will likely replace the 5770 with a next generation high end card (for all of ~$250 at that), and the aforementioned comparison will then border on absurdity. Because powerful GPUs will eat up a lot of wattage in short order and put out a lot of heat to match, they don't pair well with mobile platforms and thus there's really no alternative to a proper desktop if you have any serious interest in gaming.
Besides, it's nice to have some level of redundancy in a worst case scenario. Laptops are relatively prone to theft and hardware failure (though you can certainly mitigate the risk of the former to a very low level). Oh, and definitely build the desktop yourself. It's really pretty easy these days (what with the vendors themselves matching parts for you, and every major hardware site out there offering build guides) and you'll get better parts for the money. Putting it together can be fun in its own right, if you enjoy tinkering.

You could try speaking with the manager at the Apple Store. Usually with Apple rules are rules. Good luck. ;)

sounds like his dad had to have replaced the Wii's drive with one from a DVD Player, but i thought that that would make it so you couldn't play games...

Recently i have installed Lion developer preview 2 Mac Os.
Due to the fact that it was too buggy i decided to install Snow Leopard... i backed up to Time Machine.
And now my mac does not recognize external hard drive and keep writing to me that to open it i need to have Mac OS 10.7
Could you help me with some solutions with my problem?
Yeah, in the future follow my (or our) advice, and use developer releases of Mac OS X only on a separate machine. Each major version of Mac OS X contains file system changes (that means changes in the kernel), which can result in various "bugs" in prerelease versions and/or in permanent data loss. Prereleases are not a toy.

Only concern is how long Wii online will stay online.
It will eventually turn into another name maybe, but the new system is supposed to play all Wii and GC games (rumors) and of course older virtual consoles...

Anyone know how much a Tshirt is? And if there's any way to get one other than going to San Francisco?
Each T-shirt is under $20
There are also hats, zipped long sleeve shirts with Apple logo, keychains, cups.
Cupertino is about 1 hour drive from San Francisco, and maybe 30 minutes drive from San Jose if there is no traffic.
Note VERY limited store hours, at least for those there on business. I got lucky on a business trip one day and was able to go in the afternoon otherwise count a long lunch + car.
And in 1999 Microsoft tried to open their own store, I wonder why?

Hey guys, just wanting to know if anybody has made or found a wallpaper of WWDC 2011 with the Apple logo and apps inside it ?
Preferably to fit 2560 x 1440 ???
It's not 2560x1440 but it's the best I can find!

I had the black screen when waking just 5 minutes ago. Had to put my MBA to sleep, wait a couple seconds and wake it again to get the backlight to come on. I'd really like this fixed. I've been on 10.6.6 since the day it was released.
My Air was not waking up nearly every time I opened it. All updates and fixes installed, and it still did it nearly every time. Apple Care calls in the dozens no help. Finally I decided to just to do a clean reinstall "Secretly an excuse to use the USB OS Drive" and it totally worked I haven't had the sleep problem one time since.

I figured 2 would be the highest vote. I have one. It is the incase snap. Probably the only case I'll use.

There is a little gray circle with an arrow in the left of the "yellow rectangle" - click that to toggle change back to the old behavior.

You do know that iTunes is available for Windows, right? And, iTunes works with many MP3 Player (I use it with my old Rio 600). The only thing you need an iPod for is to play songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store (other than on your computer of course). You can still rip all of your CD's to MP3 format and use your old MP3 player.

When opening any High Profile HD h.264 video in the new Quicktime Player, opening the file results in very bad graphical issues. Opening the same file in any other video player (such as VLC or MPlayerX) results in no such issues. Here's a screenshot of the issue I'm having.
This is on a Base 15" 2011 MacBook Pro with no upgrades running the latest Mac OS X 10.7 developer preview.

Apple recently replaced my Rev A iMac G5 with a Rev C iMac G5, so I am selling the accessories I had purchased for that iMac.
-Apple Wireless Keyboard - used from October '04 to Oct '05 - shows normal wear and tear but has worked flawlessly
-$59 new - $53 with EDU discount
I'll take $40
-Apple Wireless Mouse - used only a handful of times (I use a trackball mouse) - shows some normal wear and tear but has also worked flawlessly
-$59 new - $53 with EDU discount
I'll take $40
-1GB PC 3200 DDR RAM (used in a Rev A 1.8GHz iMac G5) - I paid $175 for this stick of RAM and still have the receipt and original box it was in - I have had no problems with this RAM
I'll take $75
I have a paypal account for quick payment. Post here or PM me with any questions. I'll try to put some pics here this evening when I have a chance. Make some offers if you think this is too much.
JUST ADDED:
Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter - $10 shipped

If it is any consolation to those who don't have an Apple store, I live in Melbourne where we have two (and an other one coming soon?) and I've never been there.
There are Apple specialists all over the place - they're just as good, just no fancy interiors.
I reckon if apple are going to make one in the melbourne cbd its going to be somewhere amazing like the old myer building facing melb central
